Artificial intelligence is increasingly shaping the way we teach, learn, communicate and interact online. In schools, this transformation creates both opportunities and responsibilities. Educators need to understand how to use AI in meaningful and ethical ways, while young people need support to navigate digital spaces safely, critically and responsibly.
This is where EduAId and SafER-Web connect. Although they are two different Erasmus+ projects, both share a common goal: to strengthen digital education and support safer, more inclusive school communities through innovation, collaboration and the responsible use of artificial intelligence. EduAId focuses on empowering teachers, school leaders and educators to better understand and integrate AI into education. Through a micro-credentials approach, the project supports professional development and helps educators build the skills needed to use AI tools confidently and responsibly. Its activities include digital learning resources, an AI-supported assistant, gamified learning elements, and a framework for recognising educators’ progress. By doing so, EduAId does not only promote technical skills. It also encourages educators to reflect on important questions such as ethics, inclusion, personalisation and the impact of AI on teaching and learning. SafER-Web, on the other hand, focuses on adolescents and teenagers aged 12 to Its aim is to help young people stay safe online and develop responsible digital behaviours.
The project addresses risks such as cyberbullying, grooming, sexting, phishing, harmful online interactions and the misuse of personal data. To support this goal, SafER-Web develops an AI-powered learning platform, a selfassessment tool and gamified educational modules. These tools are designed to make online safety education more engaging, interactive and connected to the real digital experiences of young people. The relationship between the two projects is clear: EduAId prepares educators to work with AI in education, while SafER-Web applies AI-supported learning to one of today’s most urgent challenges: online safety. In this sense, EduAId provides a strong foundation for SafER-Web. The knowledge and methodologies developed around AI literacy, educator training, digital learning, and ethical technology use can support the way SafER-Web designs its tools and learning experiences.
At the same time, SafER-Web offers a practical example of how AI can be used to address a concrete educational and social need: protecting and empowering young people online. The connection is also strengthened by the involvement of several common partners across both initiatives, creating opportunities for shared expertise, knowledge transfer, and long-term impact.
Together, EduAId and SafER-Web show that digital transformation in education is not only about introducing new technologies. It is about preparing people to use them wisely. Teachers need confidence and guidance, and students need the skills to make informed, safe, and responsible choices online. By linking AI readiness with digital safety, these two projects contribute to a more complete vision of education: one where technology supports learning, well-being, inclusion, and active digital citizenship. EduAId and SafER-Web demonstrate how European cooperation can turn digital challenges into opportunities, helping schools become safer, smarter and more prepared for the future.
